Customised engineering example

Smooth surfaces of twist caps, used on bottles and jars, require enough gripping force to avoid slipping during a torque test but without creating distortion in the cap.

For any particular product line and size, a customised grip will always perform best and produce the most reliable results. At Mecmesin we regularly design and manufacture mandrels for specific closures.

One approach is to use the convenient 'split mandrel' which features a simple screw clamp, for quick application and release of the half-round jaws. Items such as cosmetics containers especially have designs that are easy for the hand, but difficult for machine holding. In such cases, a neoprene inner layer may also be added to the jaws to create extra friction for uniformly gripping the closure.
