Test types

Further or specific test types in this section

chord modulus

The rate of change of strain as a function of stress.

compressive deformation

This is the deformation of a material when tested in compression below its breaking strength

compressive modulus

Compressive modulus (or modulus of elasticity in compression) ... see Youngs modulus

elongation at break

This is the change in length of the sample at the break point.

secant modulus

The ratio of stress to strain at any point in the curve of a stress-strain diagram.

shear modulus

This is the tangential modulus or secant modulus of a material that is subjected to a stress when tested in shear.

strain at maximum stress

The strain (change in length compared to original length of a material) occuring at the highest stress value achieved during the

tangent modulus

The tangent module is the slope of the stress-strain diagram at any point.

tensile deformation

This is the deformation of a material when tested in tension below its breaking strength

ultimate compressive strength

The maximum compressive stress that can be sustained by the test specimen during a compressive test.

ultimate tensile strength

Ultimate Tensile Strength is defined as the force at which a specimen with a certain cross-section and consisting of a specific

yield point

The yield strength of a material indicates the tension up to which the material does not exhibit any permanent plastic deform

Young's modulus

The rate of change of strain as a function of stress.
We purchase Mecmesin products because of their versatility, and the excellent local support we receive in Mexico. This particular system works extremely well on our (infusion bag tensile strength) application.

Serrated 2-way plane grips firmly grasp tray and lid elements
The Bioengineering Department at Imperial required a new system for teaching purposes to demonstrate tensile and compressive testing on a range of different materials and custom fixtures. A system was needed that was flexible and easy to use but with a compact form that would fit our available space. The MultiTest 5-xt was an ideal solution and the hardware support from Mecmesin has been excellent.
