Tension and compression testing for education in solid mechanics
The Bioengineering Department at Imperial required a new system for teaching purposes to demonstrate tensile and compressive testing on a range of different materials and custom fixtures. A system was needed that was flexible and easy to use but with a compact form that would fit our available space. The MultiTest 5-xt was an ideal solution and the hardware support from Mecmesin has been excellent.

Tensile test on rubber gaskets
We use the Mecmesin MultiTest 10-i system to perform regular quality control tests to guarantee the quality of our supplied materials. Mecmesin provided us with a cost-effective solution to our needs and exceptional customer service. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to other companies with materials testing requirements.

Construction safety netting certification testing
Prior to purchasing the machine, test patches were taken off safety nets before their due date and kept until a batch were sent to our suppliers, which involved parcelling up and visiting the post office to send away for testing. This was time-consuming and expensive. Now we can test as and when required. We chose Mecmesin because they were the most helpful when enquiries were made.

Shotcrete Early Strength Calibration Studies
The Mecmesin penetrometer provides accurate low strength data (up to 1 MPa) as soon as you can start testing. This data can immediately be shared with the Shotcrete crews working underground. The instrument and accessories have brought benefits through easy transportation and has the ability to be used for shotcrete trials, where the samples are shot to be cored at a later date. This has eliminated the need to transport additional samples.

“Only measuring up to a few Newtons of force with an AFG 2500 N was not enabling us to proceed with our investigation and Mecmesin kindly lent us a more sensitive AFG 10N which instantaneously improved the quality of data we were collecting.”
Alex Radford, Undergraduate Student (Department of Physics)
Durham University

This test system is perfectly suited to our needs, giving us the flexibility we require to perform multiple tests with the certainty of obtaining reliable, accurate results. Undertaking these quality measurements in-house means we are also saving significant costs, as we no longer require the services of external test laboratories.

We use the MultiTest-x regularly, approximately 40 hours every week. It continues to be reliable and saves us money by enabling us to tests in-house. Mecmesin were able to offer advice regarding fixtures and designed an ideal solution for our testing needs, which remained competitively priced.

Upgrading our standard test method with a Mecmesin-i tester was one of the best decisions we made recently. Not only did the new testing machine allow us to utilize the replaced equipment for other projects, but it also improved the reliability of the test, and the reproducibility of test results. Mecmesin’s sales team provided us with all the information needed to make the decision to buy the right testing machine.
