Materials testing is often the last step in the manufacturing process. Yet, quality is the result of both the process and the material. If the material that goes into the product is inadequate or defective, then the product may be deficient or faulty. Quality cannot be put in after the fact. From R&D to product development and throughout the assembly process, understanding the materials’ properties can help to better predict the manufacturing outcome.

Materials testing is a well-established technique used to determine the physical and mechanical properties of raw materials and components from a human hair to steel, composite materials and ceramics. This two-part webinar series begins with a properties of materials overview and will discuss types of testing, necessary results obtained from that testing, grips & fixtures, applicable testing standards, testing system options and, lastly, requirements for testing & control software .

Webinar 2 of 2 Agenda Items:

  • Cabinets and furnaces
  • Overview of standards (e.g. Plastics: ASTM D638, Rubbers: ISO 37, Flexural: ASTM D790, Metals – ISO 6892-1)
  • Choosing a system
  • Testing machines
  • Testing & control software
