Induction Peel Testing

Specification

The customer needed to repeatably measure the peel resistance of heat induced induction seals, commonly used within the dairy industry.

Mecmesin application engineers were asked to develop a suitable motorised testing system to measure the initiation force to start the peel.

Solution

A system based on the UltraTest and a 100 N Advanced Force Gauge was recommended to the customer. A pin vice, attached to the AFG, was used to grip the tab of the induction seal. The stand was set to initiate a peel test at 200 mm/min, then continue to completely remove the foil seal from the PET bottle. A PC using DataPlot software (connected to the UltraTest) provided a graphical display of the test and recorded this data for later analysis.

The UltraTest system combined with the AFG forms an ideal platform for this type of test routine and can be adapted to accommodate cartons of all capacities, as shown in the pictures opposite.
