Calibration and Service

How can I arrange for my equipment to be repaired, serviced or calibrated? (MultiTest, MultiTest-i, MultiTest-x, MultiTest-d, Vortex, Vortex-i and others)

If you obtained your equipment from your local distributor please contact that distributor, who will make the necessary arrangements.

Our system seems faulty and needs repair or is broken. Is there anything I should do before returning my system? (MultiTest, MultiTest-i, MultiTest-x or Vortex-i)

Before returning your system - please take the following steps:

i. Check your operating manual to see if your system is set up properly or if the answer is in the manual for your Emperor™ version.

ii. If you have another loadcell or power supply,, or PC power down and try these.This will determine where the problem lies.

iii. Contact your local Mecmesin distributor with as much detail as possible including the product type, serial number and software version. The problem may be resolved by upgrading Emperor™ or you may also be asked for a results file and a diagnostic report so it can be investigated.

iv. If you have a MultiTest-i, Vortex-i or MultiTest-x system it is very important when you contact your Mecmesin distributor with any problems that you give the exact error messages reported. We may also need details about the program and testing.

Is it necessary to calibrate an instrument after repair?

Yes. After any repair, all instruments are verified to check compliance to design specification and operational parameters. Any repair could have an effect on the instrument readings and, if returned without necessary adjustments and calibration, the readings displayed may be inaccurate.

Can Mecmesin verify product and issue UKAS (formerly NAMAS) certificates of calibration?

The certificates of calibration issued by our laboratory will give traceability to UK National Standards. UKAS certificates can be obtained by sub-contract agreements with selected laboratories that offer the best specification and service to meet our requirements. It is important to remember that there is no UKAS laboratory which can offer an adjustment service for any of the Mecmesin product range. If sent to such a laboratory for calibration and the readings are out of specification, the certificate will detail the results `as found`, or the UKAS laboratory will return the unit to us for adjustment and calibration.

Can I obtain spare parts for any Mecmesin product?

No. Spare parts and repair/service instructions are proprietary and will not be issued to third parties. Please contact your local distributor for details of your nearest Service Centre.

Can you verify the length readings of our MultiTest-d or MultiTest stand? Why don't we have a Length Certificate for our MultiTest-d or MultiTest?

The length tests are performed on the MultiTest-d or MultiTest stands to ensure the stand is in specification and recorded. We do not produce a Length Certificate for the MultiTest-d or MultiTest stands as a standard procedure.

The MultiTest-i and MultiTest-x range are supplied with a length certificate/verification. Please note that in the case of twin column stands we supply a length verification rather than certification because we can't adjust the height.

Can you verify the speed of our Mecmesin motorised test stand? Why don't we have a Speed Certificate for our Mecmesin motorised test stand?

The speed tests are performed on Mecmesin motorised test stands to ensure the stand is in specification and recorded. The speed is only verified not certified. We do not produce a Speed Certificate for test stands as a standard procedure.

We have a Mecmesin test system composed of a stand, loadcell or force gauge or height scale; should they be verified/calibrated together? (MultiTest-i, MultiTest, MultiTest-x, MultiTest-d, Vortex or Vortex-i, AFG, BFG, Orbis, Tornado)

Mecmesin loadcells can be calibrated separately from the stand and so normally it is not necessary to return the stand when calibrating only the loadcell. This reduces transport costs and if you have more than loadcell means that testing can continue whilst one loadcell is being calibrated.

Mecmesin force gauges can also be calibrated separately from the stand.

Your quality system should dictate how often your stand needs length calibration.

It is advisable to test the complete system if you have an external height gauge or if the application warrants details of force at specific lengths. System designs and the limitations of mechanics will inevitably result in measurement errors due to the equipment deflecting under load. We are capable of recording such errors.

However some companies quality systems specify that the entire system must be calibrated together every time it is calibrated.

If you are returning your stand for length calibration please state this clearly on your paperwork.

If in doubt please speak with your local Mecmesin distributor. If there is a problem with your system we may in some circumstances ask for the loadcell and gauge to be sent back with the test stand.

What is the password for the Calibration and Service menu in Emperor™? (MultiTest-i, Snapshot-i, TC2i, Imperial, TMS-Pro and Vortex-i)

Customers do not need to use this menu, it is only used by Mecmesin Service Centres. Although the menu title is Calibration and Service you cannot calibrate an ILC/ITC using this menu.

How often must I get my Mecmesin instrument calibrated ?

Mecmesin force & torque measuring equipment is verified in our calibration laboratory to ensure and document compliance to our design specification. The verification process is carried out under controlled conditions by trained calibration technicians using verification equipment traceable to national standards. Where appropriate Mecmesin performs an adjustment procedure to bring reading back into line with the design specification and a calibration certificate is issued.


The calibration interval of the Mecmesin measuring equipment, as indicated by the label affixed to the equipment, is not a recommendation - it is only for guidance purposes.
The actual re-calibration period should be determined by a user’s own quality system. This may vary dependant on the application, circumstances and environment for which the equipment is used – for example for equipment used for safety critical applications it may be deemed by a user’s quality system to require a more frequent calibration interval than an application for non-critical and occasional use.
